BUYER'S GUIDE

Best Holster Shirts for Men: Pick the Pocket, Then the Size

Holster shirts look alike in photos, but the fabric does the holding. Choose an open or flap-sealed pocket, size by the maker's rule, then check stock.

Gym shorts, a tee and a long drive. The belt holster stays home again. So you shop for a holster shirt, and every brand shows the same photo: a fit guy in a black compression tee with a slit under each arm.

The photos match. The shirts don't. We read the maker pages for the best holster shirts for men on sale in 2026, ours included. Four details decided which one we'd buy: how the pocket closes, how the maker says to size it, the neckline, and whether it's in stock.

Why do look-alike holster shirts work so differently?

A holster shirt has no clip and no hard shell. The fabric is the holster. Our holster shirt page says compression, not gravity, decides whether the gun stays put. A shirt guide from Rifle Configurator says the same: "the shirt has to press the gun against your ribs to work."

Man in a black Phantom Tee against a dark wall. At the left of the frame the serrated rear of a black pistol slide shows at the top of the pocket; at the right, a dark pistol grip or magazine shows at the top of the other pocket
  1. The symptom. Comments under older holster shirt reviews repeat the same kinds of complaints: a small gun that sinks, a draw slowed by velcro, a strap that rubs. You can read them further down.
  2. The missing piece. Those are pocket and fit problems, not brand problems. If the fabric isn't tight enough, or the pocket doesn't suit how you move, nothing else holds the gun.
  3. Think running tights. Think of it this way: a phone in a tight pocket stays put. One size too big, and it slides down and bounces. A holster shirt behaves the same way.
  4. So pick the pocket first. An open stretch pocket has nothing to undo, so it's our default. A hook-and-loop flap holds the gun when you bend or drive, and costs you one more step.
  5. Then size by that maker's rule. Our tee says your normal size. Our holster shirt says one size up. UnderTech says your normal size. Get it right, and the gun rides flat at your ribs under a cover shirt.

Which Phantom shirt should you pick?

Both cost $59 and run S to 3XL. Start with the tee. Switch to the holster shirt only if you move the way it's built for.

Our pick

Pick the tee for most days

Order your normal size and slide the gun into the stretch pocket. The tee page doesn't list a flap, so there's nothing to undo. Store photos show a crew neck, which sits under a T-shirt.

It fits shorts-and-tee days and anyone who wants the fewest parts. White or Black.

The holster shirt: the pocket opens in a padded mesh panel under the arm.
The exception

Switch to the holster shirt if you move a lot

A hook-and-loop flap closes each pocket. The product page says that keeps the gun in place when you bend, drive or load the truck. A shoulder yoke spreads the weight across your back.

Order one size up. The store photos show it in a V-neck, in Black or White.

How do the best holster shirts for men compare?

Every line below comes from the maker's own page and store data, read on October 22, 2026, as a US shopper. Prices and stock change fast, so check again before you buy.

Options means size and color combinations in each store's product data. Phantom makes the first two shirts. We left out Graystone because we found no maker page for it.

Phantom Concealed Carry Tee: our pick for most carriers

Man in a black Phantom Tee, crew neck, angled side view, hand on hip, with the black grip of a pistol showing in the pocket under his arm
The tee's pocket rides under the arm, along the ribs. Here the pistol grip shows at the top of the pocket, so a cover shirt goes on over it.

Pick A · Our pick

The tee is a 4-way stretch compression shirt with a holster pocket under each arm. Either side works, so lefties are covered. The page says it holds a full-size handgun without sagging. It's machine washable.

Sizing is easy: order the size you normally wear. If you're between sizes, size up. The fit has to be snug, since the fabric is what holds the gun flat.

Why it's our pick: there's no flap to undo, and the size rule is the one you already use. The tee page also sells two for $106 with free shipping, so a second shirt for the wash costs less.

The catch: the page describes stretch pockets and doesn't mention a flap, so the fabric does all the holding. One commenter's main complaint about holster shirts, quoted below, was a small gun sinking too low. UnderTech's crew tee page lists the same fabric, 4-way stretch MicroPoly/Lycra, so fabric alone won't split those two.

Phantom Concealed Carry Holster Shirt: if you bend, drive or lift

The holster shirt's pocket opens in the mesh panel, with the hook-and-loop flap beside the gun.

Pick B · The exception

This shirt adds three things to the basic design. A hook-and-loop flap closes each pocket. Padded mesh panels sit between the gun and the outside of the shirt to break up its outline. A shoulder yoke spreads the weight across your back instead of one spot on your hip.

The page says the pockets fit everything from a revolver to a full-size 1911. Compact and subcompact pistols sit deepest and hide best. Machine wash it, then hang it to dry.

Size it differently from the tee. The page calls it a true compression fit. Order one size up from your normal shirt, and go up again if you're between sizes.

Where it falls short: a flap is one more step before the gun comes out. That's why we only pick it for people who bend, drive or lift a lot. One owner of a similar shirt also said the hook-and-loop strap curled and jabbed his arm after a few months. Both comments are below.

What owners and skeptics say about holster shirts

“As far as a "quick draw" this is not for that but merely, having the ability to carry a firearm on you in deep concealment.”
@ThatVAFranchise, YouTube comment under an UnderTech video (2016) · YouTube
“I had worries that the draw speed would be painfully slow after realizing that the pocket closed with velcro, and it appears I was right.”
@altoidfiend, YouTube comment under a 5.11 holster shirt review (2012) · YouTube
“my main complaint with these shirts is that a smaller gun sinks down to far.”
@biocybernaught3512, same 5.11 review (2016) · YouTube
“after a few months of use the velcro retention strap developed a curl on the free end that poked, jabbed&impaled my inner arm”

What does UnderTech UnderCover do better?

UnderTech has sold concealment shirts for years, and it deserves a fair look. Here's where it beats us, going by its own pages.

  • A mesh shirt for heat, in stock. Its Coolux mesh crew ($59.99) is sold for hot days, and 8 of its 12 options were in stock. That page says Made in USA; ours don't say where our shirts are made.
  • A third color. Both UnderTech shirts also come in Grey.
  • Price, if you wear a small. Its crew neck tee was $29.99 on sale, down from $59.99. Only one of its 19 size and color options was in stock: Grey in Small.
  • Years of owner feedback. GlockStore was already showing UnderTech shirts on YouTube in 2011. Both Phantom shirts went on sale in summer 2026.

On big sizes, neither of us wins today. The crew tee lists 4XL in White and Grey, but both were sold out when we checked. UnderTech sizes like our tee: your normal size, and up one if you're between sizes.

“These shirts are so functional that you don't even know you are wearing your gun.”

What about TRU-SPEC and 5.11?

TRU-SPEC's Concealed Carry Tee is the rival we'd look at first. It was $52.95, $6 less than ours. Its store data showed 5 of its 7 sizes in stock for a US shopper on October 22, 2026: XS, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL.

S and M were sold out. It's the only shirt here that starts at XS, and it adds an antimicrobial finish and flat-lock seams. It comes in Black only, and its page lists no pocket flap.

The 5.11 Holster Shirt has the same core parts as our holster shirt (hook-and-loop pockets, outer mesh, a shoulder yoke) plus a padded neoprene inner layer. The problem is getting one. On October 22, 2026, the 5.11 page listed only White in S and M, both out of stock.

One retailer's holster shirt guide adds a useful limit: "all brands and styles are meant for small to medium sized pistols." TRU-SPEC says its tee takes small to medium frames and that many full-size frames also fit.

Where does Phantom not win?

Soft fabric pocket, no hard shell. Neither Phantom page claims rigid trigger coverage.

Read before you buy

A buying guide that never says skip ours isn't much use. So here's the list.

  • Trigger coverage. None of the six maker pages we read, ours included, claims a rigid cover over the trigger. A commenter under an UnderTech video put the worry plainly: "there's nothing protecting a foreign object from touching the trigger." If a hard shell is a must, a Kydex holster that covers the trigger guard is the better tool.
  • Price and XS. TRU-SPEC's tee was $6 less than ours, and it starts at XS. We start at S.
  • Big sizes. We stop at 3XL. No shirt in this guide had a 4XL in stock on October 22. If you wear bigger, read our guide to concealed carry for big guys.
  • Track record and choice. UnderTech has years of owner feedback, a third color and a mesh line for heat. We have two colors and a few months on the market.
  • Speed. A holster shirt trades speed for concealment. Concealed Carry Outlet's guide puts it this way: "Where speed is not as important as concealment, consider a concealed carry holster shirt."

Holster shirt buying questions

Should I size up in a holster shirt?

Follow each maker's rule. Our tee and UnderTech's crew tee say to order your normal size and size up if you're between sizes. Our holster shirt says one size up, and up again if you're between sizes. Too loose, and the gun won't sit flat.

Crew neck or V-neck?

Store photos show our tee in a crew neck and our holster shirt in a V-neck. We'd pick by your cover shirts: a crew neck hides under a T-shirt, and a V-neck hides better under a polo or an open-collar button-up.

Will a full-size pistol fit?

Our tee page says it holds a full-size handgun without sagging. Our holster shirt fits revolvers up to a full-size 1911, but compact and subcompact guns sit deepest. TRU-SPEC says small to medium frames, and that many full-size frames also fit.

How many should I buy?

Two, if you'll carry this way most days, so one can be in the wash while you wear the other. The tee page offers 10% off two shirts and 15% off three, with free shipping.

Start with the tee, add a second for the wash

Our pick for most carriers: a stretch pocket on each side, your normal size, worn snug. Store photos show a crew neck.

  • Best for: carriers who want one easy, belt-free layer under a T-shirt.
  • Skip it if: you bend, drive or lift a lot (the holster shirt's flap suits you better), you need 4XL, or you want a hard trigger cover.
  • Buy 2 and save 10% with free shipping, or buy 3 and save 15%. That's the offer on the tee page right now.
  • White or Black, S to 3XL.
